Students at South Seattle's Van Asselt Elementary read so many books during the 2008-09 school year that Powerful Schools--in partnership with the Richard A. "Ricky" Rudine Memorial Fund--awarded the school $10,000. The Powerful Schools "Earning by Learning" program awards money to schools to support purchase of new books, and is based on the number of books read by the student body (and verified by online comprehension testing). We are proud to support Van Asselt and salute the students for their amazing accomplishments in reading.
