Powerful Schools reduces the academic achievement gap by creating strong partnerships with public schools to help children thrive. Through literacy, arts,
after-school and leadership programs, we ensure all children succeed both in and out of school.
How We Serve
Through partnerships with public schools and pre-schools, Powerful Schools creates opportunities for young children that they would not ordinarily have access to. We work closely with the school district, school leadership, parents/guardians, and the community to provide programs that align to the school curriculum and goals and that create vibrant learning centers.
Many of the schools that we partner with have high populations of children from low-income families and they attend schools that have access to less resources than schools with access to greater resources. Unfortunately, the great inequity in access to resources affects what schools can do on their own to serve the needs of all children and their families.
This is where Powerful Schools comes in. We rely on generous donations, grants, partnerships, and community support to provide an array of academic, enrichment, family, and teacher support programs that foster a lively school environment and that ensure children have access to first class programs that will ensure their academic and social success both in and out of school.
Why We Serve
Education is one of the biggest civil rights issues of our era. Our ability to educate all children with the supports they need to succeed is the ”paramount duty of the state.” Unfortunately, as the income gap between those with greater access to more financial resources and those with less access to financial resources has drastically widened, so has the education achievement and opportunity gaps for many children.
Powerful Schools rallies the community, business sector, and the school community to provide support to schools so that we can close “the gap” for children, regardless of their family income or which school they attend. We believe in programs that have measurable goals, that align to our mission, and that have the greatest evidence of impact towards erasing the achievement and opportunity gap.
