Writes of Passage – Student Poetry Reading
John Muir Elementary School
The 4/5 and 5th grade students at John Muir are experiencing Writes of Passage.  Over a multi-week residency with Powerful Schools Teaching Artist Vicky Edmonds, in collaboration with their classroom teachers, they are using the art and practice of writing as an opportunity for looking further into the unsolved mysteries in their lives.  With an emphasis on disassembling bullying- and in turn building self-esteem, integrity, and respect for others- students are studying and using poetic elements as a new way to bring their deepest insights to the page and to the world.  They will celebrate their work with a student poetry reading for their families on May 14th.
